God confirming who Jesus was, and his purpose
Purpose of Jesus-the reason Jesus came to earth. We got a privilege that God sent His Son on earth for us. To destroy the works of the devil. Therefore we have a reason to be glad, grateful and celebrate. Also embrace the opportunity. When Jesus came to earth He knew without a doubt why He was here.
First of all, before his birth, the Angel appeared to Joseph whilst he was contemplating to put her away.
Matthew 1:21 King James Version( KJV) ‘And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins” Jesus meaning Savior. http://superiordomain.net/grateful-much/
Also at baptism the Holy Ghost descended on him as a dove, and lighting upon him as he was getting baptized, God the Father confirmed Jesus. “Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I am well pleased.” Luke 3:22 KJV
When Jesus was tempted of the devil in the wilderness, he knew how to counteract him. He quote the word because he knew his victory was determined on it. See his answers Matthew 4:4, 4:7,4:10.
Also Jesus knew who he was and his purpose
John 4:34 KJV After the disciples compelled him to eat, he refuses and says, ” My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.” Waal, I got a challenge. He was one track minded. He found fulfillment in doing the work of his Father and to finish it. Remember he had just ministered to the Samaritan woman, and that gave him joy and fulfillment.
John 10:9-11 KJV Jesus said,” I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep” The thief is the devil. His only purpose when he comes to you is to kill either literally or kill anything that is good in your life, to steal hope, joy or any good thing and destroy. kill, steal, destroy BUT Jesus came to do the opposite, to give life, and life to its fullest form.
In John 3:16-17 KJV, Jesus said, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
Towards the end of Jesus’ life
John 14:2 KJV “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” Thomas in verse 5 asks how they would know the way to the Father.
Jesus with confidence says," I am the way, the truth, the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me."
Ladies and gentlemen, he is not ‘a’ way but ‘the’ way. He is not one of the ways, truths and lives. But he is the only way, only truth and only life. Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God. We cannot vote about it. Jesus is who he is. Neither can we say let’s be fair to the other gods. Because they are not the final. It’s a choice which each one has to make. God will not force us. The world has tried to devise methods and personalities to the Father. I am not saying this arrogantly but as a way for us to plainly embrace the truth without watering it. Only the truth is what can set you free, paraphrasing John 8:32
Emotions towards the end of Jesus life
Take note: Chapter 13:2..it states that the devil had now implanted into Judas’ heart to betray Jesus. From Chapter 13 to Chapter 17,he is really drilling into them information. Just like anybody who is about to die. They would want their loved ones to know important facts. As I write I am imagining all sorts of things and emotions going on through the disciple’s minds. This was their Lord, Master, Teacher, and Leader, who had shown them the light. They had relied on him. They saw him multiply the bread and the fish. Calming the storm when they cried out. Jesus had taught them a lot about the kingdom. He led by example too. Remember these men had left their professions to follow him.
Comfort from Jesus
Jesus beginning of John 14,He is comforting his disciples.Don’t let your hearts be troubled. I am going to prepare a place for you. And I will come back to take you. He is comforting them how things were gonna go. He is telling them they know where he is going and the way to get there. Thomas is way lost, he says where don’t know where you are going ,how can we know the way. He didn’t get it that because he knew Jesus therefore he know the Father, where Jesus was going. Phillip in John 14:8 says Lord show us the Father and we will be just fine(paraphrasing) Jesus replied in the following verse saying he that has seen him has seen the father. Also Chapter 15 Jesus is telling them to abide in him as the vine.
I can just imagine thinking and feeling that their lives were gonna go hay wire.
For this Purpose
Hence the Lord taking time teaching and explaining more when he knew his time for death was near. 1 John 8 ” For this purpose the son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” All the following happened to fulfill the purpose. Born as a man, and lived among them. He called the twelve and ministered to the people. And suffered at the hands of Pontius Pilate. He was bitten, scourged, hung on the cross, died, and rose from the dead on the third day. Plus his going back to heaven. In all this He destroyed the works of the devil.
One track minded to fulfill the purpose
Defeating the devil in the wilderness, calling the twelve. Teaching, training them. Healing the sick, casting out devils. And ultimately suffering for humanity, shedding his blood. He died a cruel death, BUT on the third day rose from the dead.
After Jesus had risen from the dead, he came to his disciples Matthew 28:18 KJV
‘All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”
Verse 19 “go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Verse 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen
What does this mean for you and me
He came to destroy the works of the enemy. Have you given Jesus permission to destroy the works of the enemy in your life? Have you received him in your life.http://superiordomain.net/receive-salvation/ If you have, do you know where to go from there. You need assurance of your salvation. http://superiordomain.net/assurance-salvation/
In conclusion: Yes some have received him and they know what’s going on. That’s when we have to make use of the authority we got from Jesus. Consequently going into all the world preaching the gospel. In these days of technology it’s easier. Our first purpose is telling others about Christ. Live for him. Abiding in the vine, by staying in the word of God. Consequently manifesting his character and let the power of God be manifest.
