Have you made going to church an end in itself? Why do you go to church? Also, are you getting the most out of it? Most importantly, what does the Bible say about it?
Have you made going to church an end in itself? Hebrews 10:25
24 and let us consider [thoughtfully] how we may encourage one another to love and to do good deeds, 25 not forsaking our meeting together [as believers for worship and instruction], as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more [faithfully] as you see the day [of Christ’s return] approaching.( Amplified Version)
- let’s not forsake assembling together
- but assemble together, to encourage one another
- to love and to do good deeds
- all the more as we see the day of Christ’s return approaching.
During this time with the COVID-19 epidemic, of course, for the sake of safety, we are not assembling together as usual. And how do you feel now, without going to church? Do you feel any different? If so, in what way? So, in light of the above Scripture: Have you made going to church an end in itself?
41 So then, those who accepted his message were baptized; and on that day about 3,000 souls were added [to the body of believers]. 42 They were continually and faithfully devoting themselves to the instruction of the apostles, and to fellowship, to [i]eating meals together and to prayers.
We have an example of those in the early church who after salvation;
- they then devoted themselves to the instructions of the apostle
- to fellowship
- and eating meals together
- and to prayers
Since they had given their lives to Christ, they, therefore, had to continue in the ways of the Lord. By doing the above. Since by following the apostles’ instructions, fellowshipping, and prayers, they then would learn how to love and do good deeds.
Have you made going to church an end in itself?
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words], baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always [remaining with you perpetually—regardless of circumstance, and on every occasion], even to the end of the age.”
- after one receives Jesus, they go on to learn His ways, thereby, becoming disciples.
- Part of which is to be baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
- those in teaching positions teach them the ways
What is a disciple? A disciple is a follower of somebody. And they learn everything pertaining to the one they are following, specifically, the teachings. Therefore, a disciple of Jesus Christ is a follower of Jesus Christ. One who accepts His love and teachings. Also lives by those teachings. it’s therefore, important to meet with people of like mind in order to learn from each other.
Have you made the preaching at church an end in itself?
11 And [His gifts to the church were varied and] He Himself appointed some as apostles [special messengers, representatives], some as prophets [who speak a new message from God to the people], some as evangelists [who spread the good news of salvation], and some as pastors and teachers [to shepherd and guide and instruct], 12 [and He did this] to fully equip and perfect the saints (God’s people) for works of service, to build up the body of Christ [the church]; 13 until we all reach oneness in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, [growing spiritually] to become a mature believer, reaching to the measure of the fullness of Christ [manifesting His spiritual completeness and exercising our spiritual gifts in unity]. 14 So that we are no longer children [spiritually immature], tossed back and forth [like ships on a stormy sea] and carried about by every wind of [shifting] doctrine, by the cunning and trickery of [unscrupulous] men, by the deceitful scheming of people ready to do anything [for personal profit].
- Gifts to the church-apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers
- to fully equip and perfect saints(God’s people)for works of service, build up the body of Christ
- until we all grow spiritually to a mature believer
- by manifesting HIs spiritual completeness and exercising our spiritual gifts in unity.
- so that we are no longer all over-tossed about by every wind of doctrine.
When you check out yourself. Are you sound in doctrine?
Or everything that comes around you, you partake? If so, seek growth. Whilst reading the bible ask God to enlighten sprit. Pray about it. Next time you attend a church gathering in person or visual, make sure you are really listening and understanding the message.
Also, seek spiritual completeness/maturity so you can exercise spiritual gifts in unity.
After all this information, are you still stuck on going to church? Just because others go to church? The other thing is the gifts God gave us: apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers, they are there to equip us. For service. Hence going to church is not the end, but you should have something you are doing as a service. Are you teaching the youth, some women group, or you are part of an outreach team? As we go we are expanding the kingdom of God.
Are you agreeing that you are one of the people the scripture below is talking about? Hebrews 5:12-14
12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers [because of the time you have had to learn these truths], you actually need someone to teach you again the elementary principles of God’s word [from the beginning], and you have come to be continually in need of milk, not solid food. 13 For everyone who lives on milk is [doctrinally inexperienced and] unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a spiritual infant. 14 But solid food is for the [spiritually] mature, whose senses are trained by practice to distinguish between what is morally good and what is evil.
- you have been learning these truths for a while therefore, you ought to be teachers now
- yet in actuality you still need someone to teach you the elementary principles of God’s word.
- also, you still need the basic principles (milk), not solid.
- For anyone who lives in milk is doctrinally inexperienced, unskilled in the word of righteousness(spiritual infant)
- conversely, solid food is for the spiritually mature, whose senses are trained to practice to distinguish between good and bad.
Do you think you are a spiritual baby? keep on learning the elementary principles of God’s word. It’s a gradual process. Therefore, be patient. Don’t rush. Don’t compete with anyone. Because in this there are many competitors, yet they don’t compete against each other. Because everyone has their own race. For they belong to the same team. Therefore, don’t shy away, since you can get help from your brother or sister.
This isn’t about making anyone feel bad, but encouraging one another unto good works. As the bible says. Therefore, we ought to remind one another. Hence work together to further the purposes of the Kingdom of God. Hence fulfilling what the Lord has placed us on earth for. Lord, help me stay in my lane
