- God created the heavens and the earth
- created man and woman
- then commanded them to produce and multiply, fill the earth, replenish and subdue it
That is to rule the fish of the sea, plus the birds of the sky
And every animal crawling on the earth
God gave them every seed-producing plant
And every tree with seed containing fruit for food.
He also told them that was food for them.
And for all the wildlife of the earth,
For every bird of the sky,
and for every animal that crawls on the earth
He then, told them He had given them every green plant for food.
In the end, God saw All that He made, and it was very good
Genesis 1:27-31 (paraphrase)
Let me say, God, desire for humanity to have ‘Earth Day’ every day. Adam and his wife taking care of the plants. Since when God handed over authority the earth it was good.
Now you may say, “but some plants are poisonous” Why then did God say, they were food.
Answer: They were not poisonous then. Because after handing over authority to humanity, God saw that it was very good Genesis 1:31. But when Adam and Eve sinned, God cursed the ground Genesis 3:17.
Earth Day & the environment
The Earth Day we have today was God’s original intent, in its unadulterated form.
What is earth day? Wikipedia states it’s an annual event celebrated on April 22. Worldwide, various events are held to show support for environmental protection ”
Its founder was Senator Gaylord Anton Nelson. And it began as a teach-in about environmental issues. Earth Day network coördinates Earth Day activities, globally. Awareness of environmental issues daily is the motto. Adam had the responsibility to take care of the earth. To rule/subdue it.
You may begin to wonder. Where is she going with this? Great question.
Answer: After Adam sinned, the last Adam came.
The first Adam Versus The Second/Adam
The First Adam became a living being, the last Adam, a life-giving Spirit 1 Corinthians 15:45
The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven 1 Corinthians 15:47
The First Adam became a living being after God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. And the man became a living being. Genesis 2:7
Ladies and gentlemen, the last Adam came to restore all things. He is a life-giving Spirit. His life name is Jesus.
What must we do
Besides doing what is natural in preserving our environments, which is good. We can also declare life into our environments.
- Pray for those in authority, those making decisions and passing laws environmentally. We pray for wisdom. The Bible says, to pray for those in authority.1 Timothy 2:1-2.
Wisdom comes from God. God gave Solomon wisdom to rule.http://superiordomain.net/wisdom/
Believers, we are the salt(preservatives) of the earth. Matthew 5:13. Salt also seasons food, therefore making it tasty. As a preservative, it preserves a substance from going bad. Growing up in Africa, in rural areas. We didn’t have refrigerators. So if we had a huge chunk of meat. We would sprinkle salt on it. As a result, this would prevent the growth of bacteria. The meat would go for a long while without getting bad. If you had a wound or cut the adults would wash it with salty water or just sprinkle a little salt on it. Thereby speeding up healing. Ouch! I didn’t like it.
We are also the light of the world Matthew 5:14 and Jesus is the Light of the world. Jesus said let your light shine, that they may see your good deeds. Why? Then, they will glorify your Father in heaven -Matthew 5:16. What does it mean? In this context, let’s be a good example. As simple as it may sound, but we ought to remember this often. Not throwing trash all over. Put recycle trash separately from regular trash. Let’s be good Stewart of what the Lord has entrusted us with.
We follow after the great LIGHT, therefore, we are also light. God says if His people, humble themselves, and turn from their wicked ways. He promises, in turn, to forgive sins and heal our land.2 Chronicles 7:14
James 5:17 Elijah was a human, just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain. Hence it did not rain for three and a half years.
Verse 18 Again he prayed for rain, it rained and the earth produced.
It’s Prayer, and prayer, plus prayer. I’m preaching to myself too. Salt and light cannot stand on the sidelines. It’s time to rise, Shine for Our Light has come!
- We can declare things and results show But how? By speaking to the atmosphere, speaking to vegetation, and to the rivers/oceans. They have ears. They do hear:
- Jesus rebuked the waves and they calmed. He said, “Quiet, be still.” And the seas calmed immediately. Mark 4:39
- To the barren fig tree, he said, “May no fruit ever come from you again!” At once the fig tree withered Matthew 21:19. In this instance, Jesus got the chance to teach the disciples about faith. That if they believe, they will have whatever they ask for in prayer.
